Victory to Thorpe but Wayne takes Novogar

RECORDING his lowest score win from his five times Birmingham Moto club's national Victory trial wins, Dan Thorpe, to the relief of clerk of the course Graham Harrison, who feared a clean ride result, dropped his only mark on the fearsome waterfall at Weston Farm on Sunday to retain the Victory cup.
The top honours, however, had to go to Wayne Holdsworth as winner of this, round six of this year's Novogar trials series, by one clean ahead of series leader James Fry, both losing three marks on the very dry ten groups of sections in the Knighton area of Mid Wales, and both ahead of 2006 Novogar champion, and non point scoring, Chris Pearson who lost out to Fry on a second tie-break.
Disappointed with his relatively high score of the day, multi-Welsh champion Gary Jenkins finished third in the Novogar class but eased into runner-up spot in the series ahead of Colmore winner Lee Sampson who entered the Victory but rode on the same day in the World round Junior class in Venezuela where he finished fifth.
Dan Farrer, on a total of six, one ahead of Simon Welsh, held off a close tie-break won by Adam Norris ahead of Jason Bayliss and another tie-break that went to Richard Timperley clear of Andy Cripps, and yet another in double figures, went to Sean Fox ahead of Matthew Jones.
Adding super tension on Sunday even the Over 40 class almost ended in a tie-break when Dave Clinkard and Richard Allen were declared winner and runner-up on a two clean tie-break, but a further check on the results revealed that Michael James had won the class by one mark and moves up into runner-up in the class by one point ahead of Clinkard.
Fourth place on Sunday went to Chris Koch, two marks behind Clinkard.
